Although the fire destroyed the small business, every cloud has a silver lining and the business owners were able to build a new building which was better than the original one.

My friend is very discouraged because of his recent bad luck. However, every dog has his day and he should soon overcome those problems and find success.

- something that is different from what you believe or expect can prove that the belief is often true
All of the salespeople at the office are very talkative and outgoing but one person is the exception that proves the rule. He is very quiet and shy.

- a crime or injury should be paid back equally
The athlete believed in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and he attacked the player who had hurt him during the previous game.
eyes are bigger than one's stomach
- when someone takes more food than he or she can eat
My eyes were bigger than my stomach at the buffet and I was unable to eat all of the food that I took.
